Business overdraft alternatives: what to do when your bank cuts your overdraft
The main business overdraft alternatives are a revolving credit facility, invoice finance, a working capital or term loan,…
How Funding Circle FlexiPay works: £2,000 to £250,000 limits, flat fees per use, who can apply, the real cost and the credit lines to compare it with.
FlexiPay is a revolving credit line from Funding Circle for UK limited companies. You use it to pay business costs, such as supplier invoices, bills or a tax bill, and repay each use in equal monthly instalments. Instead of interest, Funding Circle charges a flat fee each time you use it. Smart Funding Solutions is a broker, not a lender: we compare FlexiPay with other credit lines on our panel and arrange the one that fits.
Every fact about FlexiPay below comes from Funding Circle's own public pages, which we checked on 18 October 2026. Funding Circle can change its terms, so check the current details with Funding Circle before you apply.
That makes FlexiPay a kind of revolving credit facility, but priced per use rather than by interest on a balance.
Funding Circle's pages quote the fee in slightly different ways, depending on the page and its date. We list each one so you can see the range.
| Funding Circle page | What it says about the fee |
|---|---|
| How FlexiPay gives you more credit than you think (published 13 August 2025) | Free to set up when you apply directly, with no interest or annual fees; a flat fee each time you use it, from 1.99% depending on the number of instalments |
| Overdrafts vs credit facilities vs FlexiPay (published 31 December 2024) | A flat fee from 1.5% per transaction; fee free when you pay off your card balance in 1 instalment |
| FlexiPay for Corporation Tax (checked 18 October 2026) | A flat fee from 1.99% per use; clearing your balance early waives remaining instalment fees for customers who joined after July 2024 |
| FlexiPay through a broker (checked 18 October 2026) | A flat fee from 3.9% per invoice, repaid over 3 equal monthly instalments with 0% interest |
The broker page shows that the fee can depend on how you apply. Ask for the fee on any FlexiPay offer in writing before you accept it.
Funding Circle's FlexiPay card page gives these examples for a £1,000 purchase:
| Repaid over | Monthly payment | Total repaid | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 months | £346.63 | £1,039.90 | £39.90 |
| 6 months | £179.98 | £1,079.90 | £79.90 |
| 12 months | £96.66 | £1,159.90 | £159.90 |
A flat fee is easy to understand, but it is not the same as a low rate. Because you pay the balance down each month, these examples work out at roughly 24% to 28% a year as a simple annual rate (our calculation from Funding Circle's figures). Compare that with the credit lines and loans in the table on our revolving credit page.
When we arrange FlexiPay, the rate card Funding Circle gives us as a broker lists two years' trading and a personal guarantee from the directors. Our lender guide to Funding Circle's funding options covers its loans as well.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| No interest or annual fee when you apply directly | The flat fee can work out at a high annual rate on short repayments |

| Instant decision on your limit, according to Funding Circle | Fees differ by route, and the broker route quotes from 3.9% per invoice |
| Can pay Corporation Tax, suppliers and card spending | The card cannot be used for cash, and Section 75 does not apply |
| Feature | FlexiPay | Revolving credit facility | Bank overdraft |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it is priced | Flat fee per use | Interest on the drawn balance, sometimes an arrangement fee | Interest on the overdrawn balance, plus arrangement and renewal fees |
| How you repay | Equal monthly instalments for each use | Set repayments or each drawdown cleared over a term | Money paid into the account |
| Limit | £2,000 to £250,000 | From £10,000 to £20 million across our panel | Set by your bank |
| Withdrawn on demand? | Check the agreement | Usually agreed for a set period | Often repayable on demand |

Funding Circle also offers a cashback business credit card, separate from FlexiPay. It is a Visa card with a limit of up to £250,000, 2% cashback for the first 6 months (capped at £2,000) and then 1% with no cap, and up to 42 days interest-free if you pay the balance in full (Funding Circle, checked October 2026).
The two suit different spending. FlexiPay spreads each use over fixed instalments for a flat fee; the cashback card suits spending you clear in full every month, because a carried balance is charged interest at a representative 34.9% APR (variable). Existing FlexiPay customers are not yet eligible for the card. We arrange both; our business credit cards page explains how the card works and what it costs.
You can apply directly on Funding Circle's website, or we can include FlexiPay when we search the market for you. We set its fee beside offers from other credit line lenders on our panel so you can compare the total cost.

It is a revolving credit line with a card attached. You can pay invoices and bills through it or spend on the FlexiPay Visa card, and each use is repaid in equal monthly instalments. It works more like a revolving credit facility than a term loan.
Funding Circle says FlexiPay has no interest or annual fees when you apply directly. Instead it charges a flat fee each time you use it, which depends on how many instalments you choose. A flat fee can still work out expensive on short repayments, so compare the total you repay.
Funding Circle publishes credit limits from £2,000 to £250,000. The limit you are offered depends on your business and Funding Circle's checks.
No. Funding Circle says you must be a limited company. Sole traders and partnerships can look at other credit lines and flexible loans on our panel, several of which do not require a limited company.
Funding Circle's corporation tax page says customers who joined after July 2024 can clear their balance early to waive the remaining instalment fees. Check how early repayment works in your own agreement before you rely on it.
Yes. Funding Circle has a FlexiPay page for Corporation Tax, with a £100 minimum bill. Compare it with a corporation tax loan, which spreads larger bills over up to 12 months with a known cost, and with HMRC Time to Pay.
