How this calculator works

The total repayable is the advance multiplied by the factor rate, and the cost is the difference. Repayments are taken as an agreed share of your card takings, so the calculator estimates the monthly deduction from your average takings and divides the total by it to estimate how long repayment might take.

What lenders will look at

The total repayable is fixed when the advance is agreed. Busy months repay it faster and quiet months more slowly, but repaying quickly does not usually reduce the total, so a short repayment period can mean a high effective annual cost.

Compare the cost with a short-term loan or revenue-based loan before deciding. Our guide to merchant cash advances covers the pros and cons.

FAQs

Questions about this calculator

What is a factor rate?

A factor rate is a multiplier set by the provider. An advance of £30,000 at 1.20 means £36,000 is repaid in total. Unlike an interest rate, the charge does not fall if you repay early.

How long does a merchant cash advance take to repay?

It depends on your card takings. A higher share deducted, or stronger trading, repays it faster. The calculator gives an estimate from your average month; seasonal businesses should allow for quieter periods.

Is a merchant cash advance a loan?

It is usually structured as a purchase of future card sales rather than a loan, which is why repayments flex with takings. It is still a commitment, so read the agreement carefully.
