I manage the VFO department at an accountancy practice and contacted Simon on behalf of a client whose unique situation made him appear unsuitable for finance. I had a chat with Simon and he got straight onto the case and found a fantastic finance deal which allows my client to take his business to the next level. Finance that appeared unattainable was sorted within a short period of time.

Introducer scheme guide

How business finance referrals work, start to finish

What accountants, advisers, business brokers and asset dealers usually ask before making a first introduction, answered plainly.

  • What you can refer

Any UK business that needs funding, from unsecured business loans and invoice finance to asset finance, VAT and tax funding, merchant cash advances and acquisition finance. We search more than 300 lenders, so a case a bank has declined is still worth sending.

  • How the commission works

Lenders pay us a commission when a deal completes. You receive 50% of the commission we receive, paid within 15 days of us receiving it, under a written referral agreement you accept online before your first introduction. Your share on every deal appears in your portal.

  • Telling your client

Before your client goes ahead, we tell them that you receive a share of our commission. You disclose it and get any consent your own professional rules require. For accountants, ICAEW guidance on referral fees and commissions covers client consent, and solicitors follow the SRA Code of Conduct.

  • Your role and ours

You make the introduction, with your client’s agreement, and stay their trusted adviser. We handle the application, the lenders and the advice on the finance. You never need to recommend a product or handle client money.

  • Your client relationship

We keep you updated on progress with your client’s consent. The referral agreement stops us approaching your client about anything other than the finance you introduced them for, so the wider relationship stays with you.

  • Who you are referring to

Smart Funding Solutions Limited (FRN 972740) is an Appointed Representative of White Rose Finance Group Ltd (FRN 630772), which is directly authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can check both on the FCA register.

Introducing a professional practice? For law firms, accountancy, dental, veterinary and other practices, our specialist brand Professional Practice Loans works with practice introducers on fee blocks, partner buy-ins and practice purchases, through the same portal.

Built for accountants and advisers

As an accountant, you’ll see how critical strong cash flow is to your clients’ businesses, and the pressures on it, from late payments to a quickly changing commercial credit market.

We can identify the most relevant options for your clients, whether they need new funding for a specific purpose, a benchmark of their existing facilities, or a refinance.

We get to know your clients personally, so we can match their needs with the most suitable facility and lender while they concentrate on running their business. With access to more than 300 lenders, we can consider unsecured commercial loans, asset finance and a wide range of other facilities.

You stay in control of the relationship. We keep you informed, and you add value for your clients by introducing them to our service. Your clients can also see indicative terms for themselves through Instant Quotes, with no credit search.

Smart Funding Solutions is a whole-of-market commercial finance broker, not a lender. For independent background on the types of business finance your clients may be offered, the British Business Bank Finance Hub is a good starting point.

Partner questions

How do I partner with Smart Funding Solutions?

Simply complete the sign up form and one of our team will contact you.

How do I get paid?

We will do an even commission split of 50/50 on any successful deals.

How long does it take to sign up?

We can get you set up within minutes of receiving your sign-up request. Your submission will be reviewed by our team, and once approved, you can begin recommending clients practically immediately.

Does Smart Funding Solutions accept referrals from accountants?

We collaborate with several accounting companies and business advisors to help their clients find the ideal funding solution.

Is it free to join?

Absolutely! We don’t charge any monthly or annual charges to our referrers.

How much commission do introducers earn?

You receive 50% of the commission we receive for arranging each completed deal. The amount depends on the lender, the product and the size of the facility, so there is no fixed figure, but the commission due on every deal is shown in your introducer portal.

When is referral commission paid?

Once the finance has completed and we have received our commission, your share is paid within 15 days. If a lender ever claws commission back, your share of that amount is repaid, as the referral agreement sets out.

Do I have to tell my client that I receive commission?

Yes, and we tell them too. Before your client goes ahead, we let them know that you receive a share of our commission. You disclose it and obtain any consent your own professional rules require. Keeping it transparent protects you, your client and us.

Can accountants accept referral fees for business finance introductions?

Accountancy bodies such as ICAEW and ICAS allow members to receive referral fees and commission where their client disclosure and consent rules are followed. ICAEW explains the position in its guidance on referral fees and commissions. Your own body’s rules always apply, and we cannot give legal or regulatory advice.

Do I need to be FCA authorised to refer clients to a finance broker?

Under our agreement you act as an introducer only. You pass on your client’s details with their agreement, and we handle the application, the lenders and any advice on the finance. Smart Funding Solutions Limited (FRN 972740) is an Appointed Representative of White Rose Finance Group Ltd (FRN 630772), and you can check both on the FCA register. If you are unsure whether anything else your firm does needs authorisation, ask your professional body or compliance adviser.

Can business brokers and asset dealers join the referral programme?

Yes. Business brokers introduce buyers who need acquisition finance to complete a purchase, and dealers and sellers of vehicles, plant and equipment introduce customers who need asset finance. The same 50% share and the same portal apply.

Will my client be credit searched?

No credit search is made to show indicative terms through Instant Quotes. A lender only runs a credit search if your client chooses to apply.

Is there a minimum number of referrals or a tie-in?

No. It is free to join and there is no minimum. Either side can end the agreement with one month’s notice by email, and commission on clients you introduced before then is still paid.

Will you offer my client other services?

No. The referral agreement stops us approaching your client about anything other than the finance you introduced them for, during the agreement and for two years after it ends, unless your client comes to us first.
