JBR Capital review: prestige and classic car finance for businesses

An independent review of JBR Capital car finance: supercar, classic and luxury car lending from £25,000, who it suits, what it checks and alternatives.

In this guide
  1. About JBR Capital
  2. What JBR Capital funds
  3. Who JBR Capital suits (and who it may not)
  4. What JBR Capital looks at
  5. Pros and cons of JBR Capital
  6. Applying through a broker vs going direct
  7. Alternatives to JBR Capital

JBR Capital is a London based specialist lender that finances high end cars: supercars, classics, luxury models and premium electric vehicles. It describes itself as the UK's only finance provider dedicated solely to high end vehicle finance, and it lends to both individuals and businesses. Smart Funding Solutions is an independent broker, so if you are buying a prestige car through your company we can compare JBR Capital with other specialist and mainstream lenders.

About JBR Capital

JBR Capital was founded in 2015 and is based at Leadenhall Street in the City of London. In 2024 it was acquired by Shawbrook Group, a UK specialist bank, and it continues to trade under the JBR Capital name with the same focus on high value cars. JBR says it has lent more than £1 billion since launch.

Its approach is deliberately manual. Rather than relying on automated scorecards, JBR says it underwrites each case individually, which is why it can consider customers with complex income, overseas connections or large asset bases that do not fit a standard credit model. It works with manufacturers, dealers and specialist brokers.

JBR Capital is one of the lenders on our panel. Smart Funding Solutions is an independent broker and is not part of JBR Capital.

What JBR Capital funds

JBR Capital lends from £25,000 up to £2 million per deal, with terms from 12 to 60 months depending on the product. Its range includes:

ProductWhat it is for
Hire purchaseSpread the cost of a car and own it once the final payment is made
Lease purchaseLower regular payments with a larger final payment, useful for cars that hold their value
Equity releaseRaise funds against a high value car you already own
Auction financeFunding to buy at auction, where payment is needed quickly
Restoration financeFunding towards restoring a classic or historic vehicle
Credit linesA facility for collectors or businesses buying more than one car over time

The marques JBR mentions include Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin, Bentley, McLaren and Rolls-Royce, as well as premium models from Tesla and Range Rover. For more on how businesses fund cars like these, see our page on prestige car finance for business.

Who JBR Capital suits (and who it may not)

JBR Capital is most likely to suit:

  • companies, directors and high net worth individuals buying a car worth £25,000 or more
  • buyers of classic, collectable or limited production cars that mainstream lenders may not value well
  • applicants with complex income or significant assets that automated systems struggle to assess
  • collectors wanting to raise money against cars they already own

It is not designed for everyday company cars or vans at lower values, or for fleets of standard vehicles. For those, a mainstream limited company car finance provider is likely to be a better fit.

What JBR Capital looks at

JBR says some decisions can be made within four hours. Because it underwrites manually, expect it to look at the full picture, typically including:

  • the car: make, model, age, provenance, condition and likely future value
  • the deposit or part exchange you are putting in
  • income and assets, including company accounts if the car is being bought through a business
  • how payments will be met and, for lease purchase, how any final payment will be settled
  • credit history, with context for any unusual circumstances

Have proof of identity, address, income and, for company purchases, recent filed accounts and bank statements ready to speed things up.

Pros and cons of JBR Capital

Pros

  • Specialist knowledge of high value, classic and collectable cars
  • Manual underwriting suits complex or non standard applicants
  • Broad product range including equity release and auction finance
  • Backed by Shawbrook Group since 2024

Cons

  • Only funds high end cars, with a £25,000 minimum
  • Manual underwriting can take longer than an instant decision from a mainstream lender
  • Large final payments on lease purchase need planning
  • Not suited to standard business vehicles or fleets

Applying through a broker vs going direct

Many prestige car buyers are offered finance by the dealer, or go straight to a specialist. That works, but it can mean accepting the first structure offered. Whether hire purchase, lease purchase or an equity release is best depends on your tax position, how long you plan to keep the car and how it is used in the business.

We search the market across our panel of 300+ lenders, including specialists like JBR Capital and broader motor and asset finance lenders, and compare structures as well as lenders. It is free to enquire; any broker fee is disclosed separately before you proceed. Start with our instant quotes tool, or see JBR Capital's website for details of its range.

Alternatives to JBR Capital

  • Close Brothers: a large lender with motor and asset finance experience, worth comparing for business vehicle purchases.
  • Novuna: a major vehicle and equipment finance provider that may suit more mainstream premium cars bought through a company.

If you already own a valuable car outright and need business cash flow, asset refinance is another route to compare.

This guide is general information, not financial advice. Lenders set their own criteria, rates and terms, and all finance is subject to status.
