BPCE Equipment Solutions review: equipment finance for UK businesses

BPCE Equipment Solutions, formerly SGEF, funds agricultural, transport, medical, technology and green equipment. What it offers, who it suits, alternatives.

In this guide
  1. About BPCE Equipment Solutions
  2. What BPCE Equipment Solutions funds
  3. Who BPCE Equipment Solutions suits (and who it may not)
  4. What BPCE Equipment Solutions looks at
  5. Pros and cons

  7. Alternatives to BPCE Equipment Solutions

BPCE Equipment Solutions is a large, bank owned equipment finance provider that funds machinery, vehicles, medical devices, technology and green energy kit for UK businesses and public bodies. Many people will know it by its former name, Société Générale Equipment Finance. BPCE Equipment Solutions is one of the lenders on our panel, and as a broker we can compare its terms with other equipment funders for your purchase.

About BPCE Equipment Solutions

The business was formerly Société Générale Equipment Finance (SGEF) and was acquired by the French banking group Groupe BPCE on 28 February 2025. Its UK office is in Richmond, Surrey. The wider business says it operates in 31 countries.

In the UK it describes itself as a partner that makes equipment finance easy for vendors, resellers, brokers and manufacturers. It has deep sector experience: it cites 35 years in healthcare finance, over 25 years in technology finance, and work with the public sector since 1991, including more than 200 local authorities and over 40 NHS trusts. Because the rebrand is recent, some documents may still carry the old name.

What BPCE Equipment Solutions funds

BPCE lists a broad product range for UK customers, including hire purchase, finance lease, operating lease, contract hire, sale and leaseback, stocking finance, business loans, software leases and receivables finance. It says deals range from £5,000 to £25 million.

SectorExamples of assets BPCE lists
AgricultureMachinery, livestock equipment, buildings and renewable installations
Transport, industrial and constructionCommercial vehicles, plant and industrial machinery
TechnologyIT infrastructure, data storage, PCs, tablets, software and peripherals
HealthcareScanners, ultrasound, dental and ophthalmic equipment, lasers and X-ray systems
Green energySolar panels, wind turbines, battery storage, heat pumps, EV chargers and LED lighting

For farmers and contractors, our agricultural finance guide covers the wider options. If you are investing in solar, batteries or heat pumps, see our page on renewable energy business loans. Its operating lease and residual value options can also suit businesses that want lower payments and to hand kit back at the end; our operating lease guide explains how that works.

Who BPCE Equipment Solutions suits (and who it may not)

BPCE is likely to suit:

  • Established businesses in agriculture, transport, construction, manufacturing, healthcare and technology buying recognised equipment.
  • Medical and dental practices funding clinical equipment, given its long healthcare record.
  • Larger or repeat purchases, where a bank owned funder with a big balance sheet helps.
  • Green energy projects with a clear asset to finance.

It may be less suitable for:

  • Soft assets such as fit outs and furniture, which sit outside the sectors it highlights. A soft asset specialist may fit better.
  • Very new businesses or those with weak credit, where specialist lenders often have more appetite.
  • Businesses wanting cash for working capital rather than an asset.

What BPCE Equipment Solutions looks at

BPCE does not publish an application checklist for direct business customers. For equipment finance of this type, lenders typically ask for:

  • A supplier quote or invoice with full details of the equipment, new or used.
  • Recent filed accounts and management accounts, and bank statements for smaller deals.
  • Information on the directors, with permission for credit searches, and sometimes a personal guarantee.
  • For larger transactions, forecasts showing how the equipment will generate income or savings.

As a bank owned lender, expect a structured credit process. Well prepared accounts and a clear explanation of the purchase make a real difference.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Backed by a major European banking group.
  • Very wide product range, from hire purchase to operating leases and sale and leaseback.
  • Strong specialist knowledge in agriculture, healthcare, technology and green energy.
  • Can handle very large transactions as well as smaller tickets.

Cons

  • Much of its business comes through manufacturers, dealers and brokers rather than direct.
  • Bank credit processes can be more demanding for young or smaller firms.
  • Less focus on soft assets and sectors outside its core list.
  • Recent change of ownership and name may cause some paperwork confusion.

Applying through a broker vs going direct

If you are buying through a dealer, you may be offered BPCE finance at the point of sale. That can be convenient, but it is still worth checking the market: the same machine may be funded on better terms, with a different deposit or term, elsewhere. BPCE says it has a dedicated broker team. We search the market, present your case clearly and approach suitable lenders with one application. It is free to enquire; any broker fee is disclosed separately before you proceed.

Alternatives to BPCE Equipment Solutions

  • Lombard is a long established asset finance provider with wide equipment appetite, worth comparing on larger deals.
  • Close Brothers funds a broad range of equipment and may suit businesses that want a specialist lender with bank backing.
  • Siemens Financial Services is another equipment finance provider, worth comparing particularly on smaller purchases.
